San Gimignano is known for it's towers. At one time there were 76 but only 14 are left standing. The town was on the pilgrimage route from Northern Europe to Rome which gave it great prosperity in the 1200s and early 1300s. The plague, then the change of the pilgrimage route changed that but the city is beautiful to walk in and worth visiting. It is high on a mountain and the views are lovely.

The surrounding area was full of vinyards. This one is right outside the main town.

A shop window. Wild boar sausage is a Tuscan speciality and very, very, good. This boar seems to be trying to help sell sausage and chianti while he snacks on some corn.

A view from the city walls.
Another view from the walls, this one showing some trees beginning to blossom.
Another view. We couldn't figure out if that beam in the center was a sculpture of some sort or part of some construction.
Some of the towers.
