We left Venice to drive to castel pietraio and had to drive over the mountians through Bologna to Firenze. There was a terrible snow storm and it was quite frightening. The family made the best of it and had some fun anyway. At one point we were stopped for a few hours on the exit from one autostrada to another. Sam and Jonathan got out and had a snowball fight! All in all, we arrived safely, though very tired and hungry, at the Castel that evening.

This photo was a mistake but it shows the road we were on so it is sort of cool. I study maps for a hobby and had plenty of time to learn this one!

Sam by the car on the autostrada. Those blotches are snow flakes. That line next to him is the top of the railing along the road. I would estimate a two foot snow bank at this time.
